They are used in the ion exchange filtration process where dissolved ions are removed from solution and replaced with other ions of the same or similar electrical charge. There are many types of ion exchange resins, some of the most common are: Strong acid cation (SAC) exchange resins, Weak acid cation (WAC) exchange resins, Strong base anion (SBA) exchange resins, & Weak base anion (WBA) exchange resins.
